Trio Bulgarka

The female vocal ensemble Trio Bulgarka was at the forefront of the worldwide wave of popularity for Bulgarian female vocal choirs during the 1980s.

Signed by Carthage Music partner Joe Boyd to his Hannibal label in the 1980s, the trio featured the distinctive voices of Yanka Rupkina, Stoyanka Boneva and Eva Georgieva. As well as their own successful releases in the 80s including The Forest Is Crying, their voices were featured on Kate Bush albums in the 80s and 90s.

They also had successful solo careers of their own, in particular Yanka Rupkina, who was guest vocalist with Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares, and whose voice was sampled and then heard by the world on the dance group Leftfield hit single Song Of Life in the 90s. This song has recently been remixed by Betoko and is back on UK dance floors.

Carthage Music represents to copyrights for the women's compositions worldwide.
