Carthage Music was founded in 2003 by record producer and author Joe Boyd—known for his work with artists such as Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, R.E.M., Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Toots & The Maytals, and Toumani Diabaté, many of whom were released on his influential label Hannibal during the 1980s and 1990s.

He was joined by long-time collaborators Guy Morris (Blue Mountain Music, World Circuit, Faber Music) and Catherine Steinmann (record label manager and concert producer).

In recent years, the team has been further strengthened by the addition of producer Andrea Goertler.

Our catalogue features works by some of the world’s most revered artists. These include the 20th-century Bulgarian composer Philip Koutev, whose ethereal choral music—made famous by the Mystère des Voix Bulgares recordings—can be heard in the opening scene of The Banshees of Inisherin; the alternative country/blues/folk band Cowboy Junkies; and singer-songwriter Bonnie Dobson, whose career spans from the Greenwich Village folk scene of the 1960s to her recent album Dreams, recorded in collaboration with The Hanging Stars.

We also represent traditional music from one of Mali’s most celebrated griot families: the renowned singer Kassé Mady Diabaté and his daughter Hawa Diabaté, known for her work with Trio Da Kali. Our most recent signings include the UK/Belgian folk collective Remorae and the cult band Hank Dogs.
